Is my cleaner “clean”?

Did you know this:

According to Eco Facts ,

Women who work at home have a 54% higher death rate from cancer than those who work away from home. The 15-year study concluded it was a direct result of the much higher exposure rate to toxic chemicals in common household products!”

I don’t think she feels like that is a very good way to thank moms for all we do. I’m pretty sure slowly poisoning us is way below minimum wage.

And the truth is, if we are poisoning us, we are poisoning them too. Our babies.

What do we do?

There are SO many options at every store promising that their products are “safe” and also do the job, but how do we really know?

We take it back to middle school science class and we make them prove it.

Here is a fantastic test that shows many common cleaners and their effectiveness. I’m highlighting an example of a label from a super popular brand, Mrs. Meyers. Their website boasts “powerful plant-derived cleaners”, but when we take a closer look, we find so much more.
So many people see the cute soap caddy and brush and believe they are getting a clean product. Sadly, this isn’t the case.

Take a look at these results.

An Example of _Green Washing_

(Original tester unknown. If it’s you: 1. thank you. 2. I’d love to give credit where it is due. 🙂 )

I’ll just tell you that I avoid the store altogether. The thing is that I’ve learned that for a product to be labeled 100% Natural in the United States, it only needs 5% natural ingredients. The other 95% can be whatever a company so chooses. cleaners

I bet you can guess which cleaner listed above I use. You guessed it… Thieves Household cleaner!

Thieves Cleaner is proven effective at killing 99.9% of germs and it is also the most cost-effective of all the cleaners listed. Coming in at $22.50 for a highly concentrated bottle that can make up to 42 bottles of cleaner, it is priced at .52 cents a bottle.

It is full of essential oils that are adaptogenic. (No creation of superbugs here).
It is safe and effective for people and pets.
It is budget-busting.

Here are the details on ways to get it:

1. If you’re not a member of Young Living, you can click HERE and grab yourself a Thieves Premium Starter Kit ($160 pictured below) OR a Basic Starter Kit ($35 also pictured below) and add a bottle of Thieves Household Cleaner ($22.50) to your order.

Some FAQ:
Being a member of YL is the same as ordering from any other online store.
You don’t have “requirements”. You CAN order whenever you want and whatever you want.
It’s really as simple as the ingredients in their products.

Hacks That Work : Thieves Dish Soap

How many times Pinterest pins do you have for a “hack”? You know, a way to make a product work in a different way, last longer, save you money?

I’m guilty.

But as I was lost in the scroll a yesterday, I saw a “hack” using a very toxic product as bug repellent for children. This product is full of synthetic chemicals, synthetic dyes, and fake fragrance. Knowing what I know about how bad those things are for my kids (because a mother with a child like mine learns to read labels pretty quickly), and knowing that I am the gatekeeper of my home, I want to share hacks here that actually work for you, your kids, their bodies, and your budget.

Believe me when I tell you that you are worth it! Learning a new thing! Your kids are worth it. Their overall success in their personal health WILL be based on what YOU do as their parent. They will buy the brands you buy. They will take care of themselves the way that you take care of them.

No pressure. Am I right?

Now, none of this is to “mom shame”. I used to buy the household items for .23 cents with 3 coupons double stacked.  I quit working when I was 5 months pregnant with our first child 11 years ago. I understand making it all work in the parameters of the pay check.

And, I’ve also been standing there in the grocery store looking at 5 different “clean” brands that wanted to charge me an arm and a leg and my wedding rings only to find out that their ingredients weren’t much different than the big toxic brands.

Today, I am thrilled to introduce you to a product from Young Living’s Thieves line. Thieves Dish Soap is a plant based, essential oil infused, liquid dish soap. It is highly concentrated, effective, and safe for our homes. Yours and mine, friend.

In this vlog, I’m going to show you how to hack this product to:
– make it last 3 times as long,
– make it bubble so that you get all of the clean kitchen sink visuals
(because plant based products are so awesome they can clean without bubbles! Bubbles in typical products are from a synthetic agent in order to present that look of “clean” we are taught to want on every Ad for cleaning since the history of ever!)
-and make a truly wonderful product work for your budget.

What do you think? Simple enough? Budget friendly for a product that actually benefits your health while you use it?

Wanting to get your hands on this as fast as possible? I can help you with that: HERE and as an added bonus, when you grab you thieves products, you’ll also have access to a wonderful community of people just like you who are working on their wellness one cabinet of chemicals at a time!

DIY – Essential Oil Vapor Rub

One of my favorite parts of learning about how my body works has been making non-toxic support tools for our family. This chest rub is a favorite of ours. Infused with pure essential oils that boast menthol for a wonderful cooling sensation that can really open us up so we can breathe deep.

We love to apply it on the bottoms of our feet before we put on our socks during the day or before bed. We also love to apply it to our chests and backs.

This rub is diluted due to the coconut oil and ready for our kids. I’m so thankful to have options to support them that I can use as often as needed that are side effect free.

DIY – Luxurious Floral Bath Salt

Bath Salts?

IMG_E8163

During my 5th pregnancy, it seemed like my saving grace every day was a long soak in the tub. I’d use Epsom salts to assist my legs with restlessness.
I had RLS with pregnancies #3 and #4 along with what seemed to be a pregnancy-induced carpal tunnel. Thankfully both times it was gone along with the belly, but it was a hard challenge. The magnesium in the Epsom salt bath was so life-giving for my body and especially my tired muscles.
We also use bath salts almost nightly for our 4-year-old daughter who suffers from autoimmune issues including severe eczema, and my husband loves to soak after hard workouts at Crossfit.

When I came across this recipe last week, I knew I needed to make it for my girls and myself.

RECIPE:
+1/2C Epsom Salt
+1/4C Pink Himalayan Salt
+1/8C Baking Soda
+5-10 drops each:
Lavender Essential Oil
Rose Essential Oil
Ylang Ylang Essential Oil

You can find the salt HERE

DIY – Essential Oil Foot Spray

Foot Spray
I don’t know about you, but we have five kids and that means a lot of feet.
And not just any feet…
Feet that love to forget the shoes, play in splash pads, jump on trampolines, jump into crocs, wear the same sweaty socks for way too long, etc.

I’ll never ever forget the year the oldest two both got athletes foot at the same time from a splash pad visit. * Insert all of the stressed-out mommy tears.
And then there is that one time that our five-year-old son came to us with a toenail issue so bad that two of his nails were seemingly grown into his skin. Poor little guy. It was winter. He loves socks. Who knew?

I’m a sucker for a good money-saving, useful DIY project and I don’t like feet so much that when I was younger my “friends” thought it was fun to chase me down and put their bare feet on me. Total gross me out!

That is why I love this foot spray! It’s easy, inexpensive, and empowering for my kids. They can spray their feet each morning and night. Done and done.

RECIPE:
+ Glass Spray Bottle
+ Witch Hazel
+ Purification Essential Oil
+ Oregano Essential Oil
+ Tea Tree Essential Oil

DIY – Essential Oil Roller Blend – Healthy

One thing I’ve learned about life as a mother is the preemptive strike.

We no longer live in a world where we can maintain health simply by doing nothing. We are surrounded by environmental pollutants and offered little more than “food-like product” in the aisles upon aisles of the boxed and bagged at our local grocery stores. So, when we began to learn about essential oils, the tip I kept coming across was “early and often“.
Rather than have a reactive mindset, I needed to have a proactive, simple, approach to wellness for my family.  Enter “Roller Blends”

IMG_7933
Roller blends make it easy for me to hand-select the support each of us needs and utilize them in our daily lifestyle.
The blend I’m sharing with you today is one that we love to use daily. It’s great to keep in my purse and it’s so easy, my kids can apply it on their own. We usually choose behind the ears, back of the neck, and up the spine. This puts the oils right at the center of our central nervous system.

RECIPE:

Thieves BlendHello amazing smell + Immune Support (Did you know that you can google Thieves experiments and find all kinds of great info – some even done by people just like us – to support the use of Thieves in your home and on your body?)

LavenderWhen in doubt, put lavender on it. Look up all of the properties of Lavender Essential Oil. It is truly the “Army Knife of Oils”

Frankincense – You’ll find that “Frank“, as I affectionately refer to it, is in so many of my blends. This essential oil is ancient and supports our body at the cellular level. Since we know that our cells are the building blocks for our health, supporting them + their production is a no brainer.

DigizeDid you know that 70% of the immune system lives in the gut and moreover 80% of plasma cells? Taking care of our gut is something we’ve learned to do regularly and not just when there is trouble. Digize is a great blend designed to support the digestive system and gut. I’ve even found that diffusing at night has greatly impacted our bodies for the better.

Carrier OilEssential Oils are fat-soluble which means that when we apply them to our skin, they begin to look for fat. Some oils, such as cinnamon, mint oils, and seasoning oils can be “hot”.  Think about that funny, albeit terrible, cinnamon test we see videos of. People trying to put a whole spoon of only cinnamon in their mouths.

Essential Oils can be up to 10,000 times more concentrated than their herbal and whole-food counterparts. Additionally, some oils are lower viscosity than others making it easy for them to pass through the skin quickly. Carrier oils do not reduce the effectiveness of essential oils. They serve as a binder. The oils bind the fats in the vegetable oil ( coconut oil, olive oil, etc.) and enter our body slower, thus alleviating the sensation of “hot” oils.
It is also for this reason that if anyone should get essential oils into their eyes or use an oil that feels too “hot”, simply applying a carrier oil directly over the EO, will instantly relieve that sensation.

+ We use would love for you to join our essential oil community.
Life is better together.

DIY Gym Spray

In June of 2017, my husband joined a Crossfit box and the sweat started.

And friends, I am SO proud of him. He has been so dedicated.
He lays out his stuff the night before.
He’s up, has his time, and heads to work out.
He even comes home and takes care of his smelly shoes and clothes right away.

One way he does that is with his own DIY gym spray:

RECIPE:
+ Glass Spray Bottle
+ Witch Hazel
+ Lemon Essential Oil
+ Purification Essential Oil Blend

DIY Skin Toner

After our 4th child was born with chronic skin issues, we began to learn how important it is to be aware of what is going onto our skin and into our bodies.

By the time our 5th baby was on the way, I had pretty well emptied out all of my personal care items in favor of cleaner ones and many of those were DIY items, including my toner, that I’d learned to make and infuse with my favorite essential oils.

unnamed

The benefits of oils on the skin are amazing. In this recipe, I’m choosing Tea Tree to promote a healthy surface on my skin where it’s easy to collect bacteria and debris in our pores.
I’m also using Frankincense which is regarded for being excellent for whole-body health on the cellular level. When I’m thinking of glowing, healthy skin with an overall even tone, I’m thinking about frankincense. Anti-aging starts at the cellular level.

RECIPE:
+ Glass Jar with a tight light
+ Braggs Apple Cider Vinegar
+ Water
(We have a whole house filter that removes fluoride, chlorine, and other toxins. If I were making some without that, I’d consider high PH water such as Fiji Water or Smart Water.)
+ Organic Cotton Rounds

HOW TO:
Mix ACV + Water + Oils
Apply lid and shake to evenly mix ingredients.
Add cotton rounds to jar slowly until full.

I use this on my face + on any areas of our skin that need a little extra attention.

Let me know what you think of this recipe.
